I don't know the exact terminology but this is a sort of "proof" that the Herald-Tribune sent my father before the color was added. Unfortunately I don't have the original for comparison, and something tells me that this inked-only version might be nicer than what was published.

This is marvelous material. The joke is a bit predictable, but the artwork is absolutely gorgeous. All of it is structured and beautifully composed. It also reads very clearly, even atthe size you have it. That is a sign of a great artist. Your father is an inspiration to all of us aspiring cartoonists/artists. Thank you for this.
Brilliant! I just love the silent strips he did at the time. It's mot the joke, it's the telling of the joke that makes it as good as it is. I think I will use this sample in my upcoming post about silent gags. In most of them the coloring was okay, but it didn't take them to the next level.
